Bars instead of blocks separate words. If you design the grid yourself insert bars by pressing Alt+Cursor keys, or double-clicking on a line with the mouse.
Barred puzzles usually have a thick border, set under Grid Properties..

Select the Barred template in the New Puzzle window to make one of these. After you have chosen a size for the grid select a grid pattern in the grid library or click Design grid myself to make a new grid pattern.
